November Calendar and other Cool Things!

Hi Folks!

Sorry the November Calendar is tardy to the party. That being said, it looks really great and we have so many classes available this month that it wouldn't fit in our normal format. What we ended up with was a 4 page, single fold zine-style calendar! You should really check it out and can download it in full HERE. Thanks to Jessie G for the art this month, and thanks to all our new facilitators for offering cool new classes.

It was fun seeing a bunch of folks at First Friday this month where we were handing out calendars. If you have any events that you'd like the Free Skool to attend or promote, go ahead and shoot us an e-mail.

Our meetings are every week, Sundays at 5pm at 1317 E. Diamond St (one street North of Roosevelt). We are always in need of good organizers, artists, social media butterflies, and people who want to do the nitty gritty work necessary to make all these awesome classes available to the public.

That being said, here's some cool stuff happening this upcoming week:

Monday 11/12:
Community Gathering to Raise Bicycle Awareness @ Jobot (6:30pm)
Religion and the Universe @ Aside of Heart (8pm)

Wednesday 11/14:

Last Day to Submit a Class for November

Today is the last day to submit a class proposal and get it on the November Free Skool Calendar. Want to facilitate a class or know about a free class or event happening in the community that you think we should know about? Contact us or go HERE to propose a class.

Thank you to all of our facilitators and organizers who got classes together in October and to everyone who came to the feast!

October Feast This Sunday!

Food, community, learning? What's not to love?

The Phoenix Free Skool has a potluck feast every month to provide a space for people to come together, build up community, and collectively create the future we wish to see and live in.

This month's feast will be at 1319 E. Diamond (One street North of 13th St. and Roosevelt) at 6pm. It's a potluck so, if you can, bring a dish for folks to nom on. Vegetarian dishes much preferred.

Remember that anyone can facilitate a class as long as money is not a requirement. If you're thinking about facilitating a class, you can either come to the feast to talk with us about it or let us know online.

Consider this an open and standing invitation to all people, groups, and organizations doing the hard groundwork to empower and strengthen the people. We believe that people who learn together and who eat together will fight together. We must find the ways that each of our struggles are interconnected. It is at this intersection where we propose to meet and, having found our common ground, hold it and expand it for the good of all peoples. We believe that this is possible through an organization which builds trust across borders and strengthens the minds of its people.

We believe that true learning is a form of resistance because it teaches people how to think critically. Once people are empowered with the ability to question and the knowledge that they can find the answers themselves, they become unstoppable.

Free Skoolers!

The October Calendar has been drawn up, but we are waiting on a high resolution scan to print and distribute official copies. Until then, we'll post up the low res copies on our blog so that you can get a taste of what's available this month! We will update you when the physical posters are printed! The September Class Calendar is Out Now!

September is upon us and that means a new calendar of free skool classes! We've got an art class, a journalism class, two language classes, and a bunch more all for free! Take a look at the current calendar and see what cool skill shares, classes, and groups are happening this month.

As always, we are looking for people who are interested in sharing their knowledge and skills. We are looking forward to potentially adding more sections on to the blog including a resources section.

Right now, we have a few class proposals that are looking for a space. These include a home repair class and a survivalist class. Check out potential classes to see more information and if you might be able to help out.

Remember, folks: All knowledge is power. All power to the people!
